Slattocks Hustings for the very first Gtreater Manchester Mayoral election on 4th May 2017 was a resounding success said those local residents who attend.
“A big thanks to all those who were able to come along to Smalley Hall last night” said Gordon Tilstone, Chair of SOS-Save Our Slattocks.
Feedback is that you appreciated the opportunity to hear from and put some tough questions to the four candidates.
Thanks also goes to the candidates for sharing their thoughts/views.
So now I urge you to vote on 4th May for your Greater Manchester Mayor.
The next version of the Greader Manchester Spatial Framework [GMSF] is due out in September followed by a second consultation period.
That isn’t that far away.
SOS – Save Our Slattocks group intends to submit comments/objections to this second GMSF consultation alongside your own letters and emails.
To help us do this we need YOUR help, our local experts.
Many of you will have local knowledge about wildlife; water courses/springs; local history; Stakehill Distribution Park; geology/geography; planning: to name but a few.
All these ‘snippets’ of local knowledge will help us put together a substantial, considered and well researched submission to the GMSF consultation.
Every little helps, so if you think you might have local information get in touch.
Please send information or contact me via email so that it doesn’t get lost in the general info on The Slattocks Telegraph:

I’m proud to call myself from Slattocks after seeing the great turnout of locals at today’s Save Our Greenbelt Rally in Albert Sq Manchester. We can truly say we ‘pulled our weight’ today especially as we have a fairly small population.
Thanks to everyone – especially Joanne & Kevin our First Aiders and AJ for joining the stewarding team.And let’s not forget The Bono of Slattocks – Ian Briggs – for the sound track to the event. Also thanks to Kallum & crew for videoing the event. Well done to you all.
Let’s keep up the pressure -watch this space for news.
SOS-Save Our Slattocks Contributes to the Rally
Yes, following the Quiz Night @ The Hopwood which raised over £200, we thought we should put our hands in our pockets, like other local groups have, and help make the Albert square Rally on 1st April a total success.
So we’ve agreed to pay around £70 to the hire of the generator to power the public address [PA] – so everyone can hear from the invited speakers.
None of this could happen without your continued support so a big big thanks to all our supporters.
Albert Square – Manchester
Many of you have asked why we are holding it on April Fool’s Day…
We want our elected officials and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to realise that they can no longer take the people of Greater Manchester for fools when it comes to their proposals to decommission large amounts of the Greenbelt, as set out in the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework.
Our groups across the Greater Manchester region wish to be part of the discussion, consultation and decision making process. The only fools on this day are the powers that be who still refuse to listen to their communities.
In particular, we want to raise awareness at the rally of:
– The flawed population forecasts the GMCA have based their proposals on;
– The lack of aspiration in their proposals for using brownfield sites and ensuring affordable housing;
– Total lack of consideration for the huge impact the proposals will have on the air quality in Greater Manchester;
– Complete lack of reference to the need for infrastructure such as schools, GP surgeries, roads and public transport their proposals will necessitate.
This will be a family friendly event and we encourage you all to bring your children and grandchildren. This is about their future too. Affordable homes but with the jobs and environment to go with it!
There’s a GREEN theme – shoe laces, t-shirts, ribbons or full on green! Your choice… most importantly, we just need you to attend the rally for 1pm.
We will have prizes for:
– Best group banner
– Best individual sign
– Best costume ‘nature inspired’ – children under 7
– Best costume 7 – 16 year olds.
Look forward to seeing you all on 1st April.”
